As I became older, I realized the problems with not only the films that Bollywood produces but also the industry itself. I have grown up watching Hindi films, dancing to Bollywood songs and at some point, I used to maintain a diary with lyrics of all of my favourite hindi songs. Before moving to London for my Master’s, I was having a conversation with a friend about how she felt when she first moved out to live by herself - and she said something that was probably the best advice I needed before coming here, and that was: “There’s nothing that a little dose of Bollywood can’t fix”.Īs India’s biggest film industry, which contributes to a major share of the country’s popular culture in terms of discourse as well as revenues, Bollywood has had a huge impact on me - like almost every other person growing up in India.
